With a degree in Art & Design from the University of Kansas and an Allied ASID for 20 years, Teresa Davis brings a twist to the Memphis market. She opened Post 31 Interiors on November 11, 2009.
Design Philosophy
Teresa's design philosophy involves the interplay of contrasts: refined and rustic, rough and smooth, modern and antique. It creates interest and depth. The unexpected raw edge of silk, a lampshade flipped to feature the shape more effectively, or a surprising use of a piece of furniture all contribute to a unique style. Lighting is softy integrated throughout an environment with candles, lamps, and chandeliers on dimmers. The advantage of of using many light sources that are less wattage provide beautiful soft lighting rather than several brighter ones. Teresa designs for each client by making the space work for their lives and activities.
It's the mix, not the match!
Teresa likes to begin with an artful foundation for mixing styles. Her motto is "it's the mix, not the match." Creating layers of various textures, colors, and shapes add depth and create a warm atmosphere. Some examples of layering: Antique Persian and Oushak rugs sit on top of bound sisal pieces; mirrors are suspended on existing mirrors; special accessories are corralled on trays; architectural pieces hang in front of windows; throws cozy up the sofas begging to be touched. Unexpected details like a small bird perched on a wreath lamp elicit surprise.
Inspiration
Inspiration comes through many venues and experiences. It may come from a simple walk through the woods, a road trip across country, or a shopping trip to the Paris flea market. I gather pieces and ideas along these journeys. Teresa's favorite rooms are not the well decorated rooms, but the memories created in those spaces. Teresa believes in making a home a statement of oneself and a place to find comfort and refuge. A home is not only about the beautiful pieces you collect, but a unique and personal expression of style, family, and the memories built. From her education and experience as a designer, Teresa excels at designing personal spaces where memories and comfort dwell.
